Ensuring Quality Through Peer Review

The editorial process of International Journal of Teaching and Learning is a systematic peer review system to assess manuscript for quality, originality, relevance and academic value.

Peer review is an integral component of good scholarly practice and we believe it is important. It allows for authors to receive feedback in an academic context, and enables the journal to retain the research's quality.

How the Review Process Works

1. Manuscript Submission

The authors submit their paper through the submission system of the journal. The manuscript should be submitted following the Submission Guidelines of the journal and should be within scope of the journal.

2. Initial Editorial Check

Once submitted, the editorial staff will make a preliminary evaluation of the manuscript to determine if it satisfies the basic requirements for publication:

  • Fits the scope of the journal
  • Meets basic formatting requirements
  • Presents sufficient academic relevance
  • Follows applicable publication and ethical standards
  • Contains the necessary information for review

Manuscripts which fail to meet basic requirements may be returned to author prior to peer review.

3. Reviewer Selection

If the manuscripts are initially accepted, they are referred to appropriate reviewers who have knowledge and experience in the field of the manuscript.

The reviewers are chosen for the topic, methodology and academic focus of the article submitted.

4. Peer Review

The manuscript is carefully reviewed and taken into consideration by reviewers, which include the following aspects:

  • Originality and relevance of the research
  • Research methodology
  • Quality and clarity of analysis
  • Presentation of findings
  • Use of relevant literature
  • Strength of conclusions
  • Overall contribution to the field

Reviewers may recommend "Accept" or "Revised" or "Reject".

5. Revision by Authors

If revisions are requested, authors should carefully address the reviewers' comments and will provide a revised version of the manuscript in a timely manner.

Authors may also be required to write a response explaining how each important comment of the reviewers has been addressed.

6. Editorial Decision

The editor makes final decision on publication based on the reviewers' suggestions and quality of revised manuscript.

Some of the potential options might be:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The decision is made by the editor of the journal and is not based on the opinion of one person only.

Confidentiality

Submitted manuscripts are considered confidential. Reviewers should maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript contents, and should not use any unpublished information for personal or professional gain.

The authors should also respect the confidentiality of the comments and correspondence of the reviewers.

Fair and Ethical Review

The Journal of International Journal of Teaching and Learning (IJTL) strives to have a fair, objective, and constructive review process. The reviewers should evaluate for possible conflict of interest, and refuse to review when they cannot be objective.

The journal will not discriminate or treat unfairly on the basis of the authors' personal or professional background.
